MORE TO “TASTE” IN 2016

The 2016 “Taste the Limestone Coast Festival” in Naracoorte will have even more to interest and delight festival goers over the weekend of 11th – 14th February!

Two new additions are welcomed to the Taste programme this year, extending the festival from Thursday to Sunday.  On Thursday 11th there will be a “Taste Travel Expo” in the Naracoorte Town Hall, hosted by helloWorld Naracoorte.  All will be welcome to “taste the world of travel” with numerous travel consultants from 2 – 5pm.  There will be many major providers attending and a wide range of specials, presentations and prizes will be on offer.

Naracoorte Lucindale Business and Tourism Association will present the other addition to the programme by holding a “Massive Sidewalk Sale” on Saturday 13th February, from 9am – 12 noon, prior to the start of the main festival event.  There will be bargains galore and a good opportunity for some retail therapy prior to a relaxing and fun – filled afternoon enjoying the “Taste!”

All of the established components of the festival will be on offer again this year.  On Friday 12th, Naracoorte Golf Club will host their annual Ambrose Golf Day, which is a highly enjoyable “must-do” for golfers of all levels.  That evening, Naracoorte North Kindergarten will again hold an open-air family movie at the Naracoorte Showgrounds.  This year the feature will be the highly entertaining “Shaun the Sheep”.

On Saturday 13th, the Town Squares will come alive with colour and music for the festival itself from 12 noon – 8pm, with almost non-stop music to help festival patrons enjoy the food, wine and other festival delights.  There will be plenty of seating and large areas of shade available, with a children’s activity tent to help occupy younger family members.  The Lions Taste Committee is delighted that permission has been given for the festival hours to be moved back one hour to allow an 8pm finish as this will allow everyone to benefit from the cooler evening time.  On offer will be over 30 stalls, including 9 local wineries, 8 different food outlets, craft beer, cider, soft drinks, coffee and a few surprise additions!

Our music this year will all come from the Limestone Coast.  The very popular local bands “15 Days” and Mahalia Fox’s “Fox Array” will headline the music and they will be supported by more local musicians to ensure almost continuous music throughout the day, alternating between our two stages.

The Naracoorte Lions Club have nominated the Naracoorte branch of the Cancer Council SA to be the recipient of profits from the festival day.  To support this an outstanding Taste Raffle has been organised , with the major prize of a $2000 Asian Adventure package very generously made available by Singapore Airlines and helloworld Naracoorte!  An accommodation package valued at $500 from the Tuck Shop B&B makes a great second prize as well!  Tickets will be on sale from this week until the festival.

On Sunday 14th, the Taste activity will start early in the Town Squares with our Farmers and Makers Market, presenting the best produce and craft goods from the local area.  Food stalls and coffee are usually available for those who don’t wish to cook breakfast!

From mid – day on the focus moves out to the Naracoorte Racecourse for the Mini-Jumbuk Naracoorte Cup Carnival, one of the highlights in the regional racing calendar.  The food and wine theme moves out to the racecourse as well, so patrons can enjoy all the colour and excitement of the carnival programme in this picturesque setting.

Naracoorte Lions Taste Chairman Ross Gleeson emphasizes that the Taste Festival “has become one of the major events in the region’s annual calendar and a major celebration for Naracoorte.  I urge locals and visitors alike to join in the festivities and support a very worthy cause”.

So why not “Come for the Taste and Stay for the Race!”
