Press Releases TASTE 2017 – ANOTHER GREAT DAY OUT!

Couldn’t get tickets to the “Red Hot Summer Tour” or thought that they were a bit too expensive?

If you would still like a Saturday afternoon and evening with great music, fabulous food and brilliant local wines, beers and cider, then come to Naracoorte on Saturday 11th February for the 2017 “Taste the Limestone Coast Festival!” Our adult entry tickets are still just $10, older teenagers $5 and under 15’s free – so a great family day can be had at a very reasonable cost!

The Saturday music, food and wine festival is just one part of a whole weekend of activities that make up the “Taste” experience and this year we will provide more activities, entertainment and fun for local families and visitors than ever before!

From Thursday evening until Sunday afternoon, the programme includes sport; an outdoor family movie; a sidewalk sale; a travel and general Quiz Night; a producers and makers market, and music, food, wine and fun on festival day!

The Taste Quiz Night is new to the festival this year. On Thursday 9th, from 6.30pm, Helloworld Travel Naracoorte is hosting this special “party – like” event to launch the festival. There will also be fun, games and prizes and a wide range of travel experts there to support this fundraiser for the hospital maternity unit. Only one table is left, so book quickly with Helloworld!

For the sporting enthusiasts, there are the Taste 4 Ball Ambrose Golf Competition on Friday 10th and the Mini Jumbuk Naracoorte Cup race meeting on Sunday 12th. The golf day, sponsored by Mini Jumbuk and Di Giorgio Family Wines offers a wonderful day of golf, competitions, fun, prizes, meals and wine tasting! These themes are all continued on Sunday at the Races, where the entertainment, food, refreshments and social side of the meeting, along with the beautiful setting and excellent racing, make for a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon.

Families will be able to enjoy the “old-time” feel of the “Drive In” movies at the showground on the evening of Friday 10th with the Naracoorte North Kindergarten showing the movie “Zootopia”, in an outdoor setting. Food, drink and activities will be available before the movie. Gates open at 6.30pm and the film will be screened when it is dark!

The highlight of the festival weekend is the Taste Festival Day on Saturday 13th. During the morning, our local shops will spread out onto the footpaths to hold a “Massive Sidewalk Sale” for bargain hunters and street buskers have been invited to set the scene for the day’s activities.

Festival activities will then move into the Town Squares where admission will cost $10 for adults, $5 for youth 15-17 years and free for under 15’s. Patrons will have a great afternoon and evening as they enjoy practically non-stop music from 12 noon until 7.30pm from popular Mount Gambier bands, “Mischief and Mayhem” and “Any Other Sunday”; with Naracoorte’s Dennis Edwards and Penola singer Nicole Lear. There will also be a young children’s entertainment tent and a roving magician to entertain younger family members. This great line up is sure to please festival patrons with a wide range of entertainment during the afternoon and evening.

The food on offer should tempt all palates! Returning favourites Pick a Pita (pizzas), Southern Hotdogs, Strawberries Galore, Peter Day Catering, Twissto, William Macintosh Highlander Restaurant, Hanalei Bay Fish Tacos and Erwin’s Bratwurst Grill will be joined by newcomers, Orexi Greek, the Robe Kiosk Van and the fabulous Coffin Bay Oyster Events! These will all be able to satisfy even the hungriest attendees.

Coffee and soft drinks will be available all day and plenty of water will be available to keep people hydrated. Festival patrons are encouraged to taste a few of the foods on offer, perhaps trying something that they have never tasted before – it’s all part of the “Taste” experience!

The Taste Festival would not be complete without the taste of the magnificent wines made in the districts surrounding Naracoorte, putting our town at the heart of the Limestone Coast Region. This year we will feature the wines from Morambro Creek, Farmer’s Leap, Giggling Goose, Oparina, Bailey Wine Co., Redden Bridge, Patrick of Coonawarra and Di Giorgio Family Wineries. Beers will be available from Robe Town Brewery, Red Duck Brewery and the Kincraig Hotel. Local ciders will be available from Patrick of Coonawarra and festival newcomers, The Cide Project.

The “Taste the Limestone Coast Festival” would not be possible without the magnificent support of businesses and organizations that sponsor the event. This year, the list is an impressive one! The Lions Club of Naracoorte thanks the Naracoorte Lucindale Council, Optus, Naracoorte Lucindale Business and Tourism Association, Di Giorgio Family Wines, WIN Network, Hansen Design and Print, Kincraig Hotel, Henschke Industries, Naracoorte Racing Club, Helloworld Travel Naracoorte, Uneed Hire, DAS Electrics, Zobel, Blue Lake Hire and the Naracoorte Golf Club for their valued support. As well as this, almost one hundred other local individuals, businesses and organizations have become “Friends of the Festival”.

The Local Producers and Makers Market will take over the Town Squares on the morning of Sunday 12th from 8am to 1pm, with a wide and tasty range of fresh and locally grown produce and quality craft goods. This is a great opportunity for everyone to have a coffee or a snack, buy something from a local producer and perhaps try something a little different before they head out to the racecourse for the afternoon!

Naracoorte Lions are also proud to announce that funds raised on the festival day will go towards the maternity Unit Refurbishment Project at the Naracoorte Hospital and also to a local Lions Centenary Project.

Lions Festival Chairman Ross Gleeson said that everything was in place for a fun and friendly festival and now all that we need is for the weather to cooperate! He also added, however, that “Attendees are reminded that this is a family friendly festival and that irresponsible drinking and irresponsible and dangerous behaviour will not be tolerated. Security staff and police will be on hand and they will be asked to remove anyone demonstrating such behaviour.”

The message of relaxing and enjoying the festival while drinking responsibly, eating sensibly and being sun safe are all being actively promoted at the festival and organizers sincerely hope festival goers will have a safe and enjoyable time at Taste 2017.
